A MAN who was ordered to pay 200,000 rupees (RM10,600) in alimony to his former wife decided to settle the amount with 20 bags of coins.

The unnamed couple from Coimbatore city in Tamil Nadu, India, had earlier been granted a divorce, Makkal Osai reported.

As for alimony, the court ruled that he had to pay 200,000 rupees.

The man went to his car and started bringing in sack upon sack filled with coins in denominations of one, two and five rupees.

Court officials, who were surprised with the man’s action, informed the judge about it.

The judge reprimanded the man, telling him that it was unacceptable to do so and ordered him to pay the amount in regular notes.

The man then loaded the bags back into his car and left the area.

Videos of the incident went viral online.

Some netizens found it amusing but others begged to differ, saying it was a form of abuse.
