Melaka clothes store owner arrested for allegedly molesting customer

MELAKA: A clothes store owner has been arrested for allegedly molesting a female customer at his business premises in Masjid Tanah, Alor Gajah.

Melaka deputy police chief Datuk Md Nazri Zawawi said in the 3.30pm incident on Dec 13, the 27-year-old victim was choosing a Baju Melayu at the shop when the 59-year-old Cambodian man approached her and pressed his body against hers.

"The mother of two felt uncomfortable and tried to keep her distance. However, when paying for the clothes, the suspect unexpectedly stroked the victim's head and the woman fled in shock.

"The victim told her 29-year-old husband about the incident and he confronted the suspect, who denied committing the act," he said in a statement here on Wednesday (Dec 18).

He said although the suspect denied molesting the victim, he apologised and promised not to repeat the act.

He added that the suspect then lodged a police report on the same day denying the act.

Photos and his clothing store went viral on Facebook.

Md Nazri said the suspect was arrested by a team from the state's sexual, women and children investigation division (D11), Criminal Investigation Department at 10.15pm on Tuesday (Dec 17).

He said the suspect tested negative for drugs and was remanded for two days for the investigation under Section 354 of the Penal Code for molest. – Bernama
