PETALING JAYA: Celebrating New Year’s Eve in Malaysia has seen a rise in popularity among international travellers this year, according to the global digital travel platform Agoda.

According to the results of its survey, it found that Agoda search inquiries rose by 13% among international travellers for accommodations in Malaysia on December 31st.

He said the increase was based on Agoda's analysis of searches made between November 1 to 27, 2024, for check-ins on December 31, 2024, compared to data from the same period in 2023.

Among the top searched destinations was Kuala Lumpur at number one with Johor Baru and Penang making up second and third spots, says Agoda Malaysia Brunei director Fabian Teja.

“The destinations of Kota Kinabalu, and Langkawi also made up the rest of the top five rankings which have received the highest search inquiries from potential travellers,” he said on Tuesday (Dec 17).

Teja added that local domestic travellers also showed similar preferences but with Penang taking the number two spot from Johor Baru.

On the flip side, Teja said that Malaysians looking to travel abroad for the New Year inquired the most about accommodations in Bangkok, Hat Yai, Taipei, Tokyo, and Singapore.

He also said that Agoda would continue to be ready to assist travellers with their journey to any destination to ensure a smooth travel experience this festive season.

"Whether you plan to explore the vibrant areas of Kuala Lumpur or relax by the beach in Langkawi, Agoda is here to help you plan your trip smoothly,” he said.
