KOTA KINABALU: A 61-year-old pedestrian died after being struck by a four-wheel drive (4WD) on Jalan Lintas in Penampang on Sunday (Dec 15) evening.

Penampang deputy OCPD Deputy Supt Erwansyah Abdul Basir said the vehicle's 20-year-old woman driver, bound for Kota Kinabalu, was unharmed in the 7.10pm incident.

"An initial investigation found that the pedestrian was crossing the road when he was hit.

"He sustained serious injuries and was pronounced dead while receiving treatment at Queen Elizabeth Hospital," DSP Erwansyah said on Monday (Dec 16).

Police are urging witnesses to come forward with information to help in the investigation under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

"We advise both motorists and pedestrians to be cautious on the road.

"Netizens are advised to refrain from sharing photos or videos of the scene on social media out of respect for the victim’s family,” he added.

DSP Erwansyah said anyone with information can contact investigating officer Insp Saparia Ladoni at 019-8095133, or go to the nearest police station.
