Samsuri: I quit to strengthen Perikatan, not due to internal conflict

KUALA TERENGGANU: Terengganu Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar says his resignation as Perikatan Nasional treasurer is a strategic decision to strengthen the coalition ahead of the 16th General Election (GE16).

He dismissed talk of internal conflict which led to his resignation, stressing that his decision was made to enhance Perikatan’s unity and political strength.

“There is no fracture within Perikatan, and I can confirm that.

“This is part of our efforts to ensure Perikatan becomes a more cohesive and robust political alliance before facing the next general election in two years,” he said after attending an event at Taman Tamadun Islam here yesterday, reported Sinar Harian.

When asked whether his resignation was made voluntarily or influenced by external pressures, Samsuri, who is a PAS vice-president, declined to comment.

He dismissed speculation that personal issues played a role in his decision, adding that it was up to the party leadership to address such concerns.

Samsuri urged the people to view his resignation as part of a broader plan to position Perikatan as a stronger alternative to the unity government.

“This is about building Perikatan into a powerful political force that can serve the people better.”

Samsuri also said his decision to resign was unrelated to the recent withdrawal of Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) from Perikatan.

Earlier, SAPP president Datuk Seri Yong Teck Lee said the party officially withdrew from Perikatan following a decision made at a supreme council meeting on Nov 23.
