Party constitution must be dynamic, responsive to change, says Saifuddin Nasution ahead of PKR congress

SHAH ALAM: PKR’s constitutional amendment ahead of its internal elections next year will ensure that the principles of gender, ethnic and age diversity are strengthened, says Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.

The Pakatan Harapan secretary-general said the proposed amendments seek to align the party with the principles of “participatory” and “proportionate representation”, ensuring inclusivity in its leadership and decision-making processes.

“This amendment will translate these practices into reality, fostering diversity in gender, ethnicity, and age,” Saifuddin said in a Facebook post Sunday (Dec 15).

The PKR constitution, Saifuddin added, has been amended several times over its 25-year history to adapt to evolving political landscapes.

Among the most notable changes, he said, were the adoption of the party’s current name, the merger with Parti Sosialis Rakyat Malaysia, and the implementation of the “one member, one vote” system in party elections.

Saifuddin emphasised that a party constitution must remain dynamic and responsive to changing political climates.

“The party cannot afford to maintain a static constitution. It must be responsive to the shifting political landscape of the nation,” he said.

PKR is holding its congress at Dewan Raja Muda Musa on Sunday (Dec 15), running from morning until noon.

Delegates from across the country attended the PKR Congress to deliberate and endorse the amendments.

Saifuddin also thanked the representatives for their participation, underscoring the importance of collective efforts in ensuring the party’s continued relevance and effectiveness.
