Firemen free boy’s pinky finger stuck in truck’s liner

KOTA KINABALU: An eight-year-old boy endured a tense five minutes after getting his pinky finger stuck under the plastic bed liner of a Toyota Hilux in Kunak on Wednesday morning (Dec 11).

Kunak Fire Station chief Muhammad Omarbatha said a rescue team was dispatched to the scene at Jalan Pelabuhan, about a kilometre away, after receiving an emergency call at 8.53am.

Upon arrival, the team, led by senior fire officer II Ome Tome, found the boy standing on the vehicle with his finger trapped in a narrow gap in the truck’s liner, which is also called a bucket that is fitted to the vehicle’s wagon to carry rough cargo.

Using a para tech tool, the team released the rear latch of the vehicle to free the boy’s finger.

“The victim endured pain but only suffered minor injuries,” said Muhammad.

The operation ended at 9.05am.
