Deadly U-turn crash kills mum, two others hurt

KOTA KINABALU: A badly taken U-turn is believed to have caused a fatal accident involving a mother on her way to work along Lintas-Kepayan Road here.

Hazwah Jubrine, a clerk at SK St Francis Convent, was with her nine-year-old daughter, Nur Adelia Amanda Mohd Aizat, when the tragedy occurred yesterday morning.

The child escaped unhurt.Kota Kinabalu police chief Asst Comm Kasim Muda said the accident involved Hazwah’s vehicle and another car, in which two men – Mohammad Nurshahrani Aziz, 20, and Beduin Kantumi, 28 – sustained minor injuries.

The mother and daughter were travelling towards Lido when their car collided with the other vehicle.“Investigations revealed that the second car was heading from Kobusak towards Putatan. The driver attempted a sudden U-turn, struck the road divider and lost control of his vehicle.

“It then veered into the opposite lane and collided with the victim’s car before turning turtle,” said ACP Kasim.

Hazwah sustained severe injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
