PROMINENT local Tamil writer Nyana Simon has been honoured by the Malaysia Barathi Tamil Mandram with a Mutthamizh Sandror award, Makkal Osai reported.

Nyana, who was part of the now defunct Tamil Nesan newspaper for 30 years, was also a Tamil radio broadcaster for 15 years and did programmes for Tamil schools for 18 years.

Having served as the chairman of the Tamil Writers Association, he also held important positions in the PJ Lions Club and took part in prestigious Tamil research conferences around the world.

Nyana was conferred the honour by National Land Finance Cooperative Society managing director and Mandram trustee Datuk B. Sahadevan at a ceremony in Kuala Lumpur.

The Barathi Tamil Mandram was formed to preserve and promote the works of the 19th century Tamil poet Barathiyar locally.
