Cops: Over 1,300 anti-gambling raids carried out in Perak from January to September

IPOH: Perak police conducted 1,369 raids against illegal gambling activities in the first nine months of the year.

Acting state police chief Deputy Comm Zulkafli Sariaat said 1,652 suspects were arrested in the raids while 1,022 electronic devices and RM272,296 in cash were seized.

Among the activities include online gambling, indoor and outdoor gambling, and illegal betting activities, he added.

DCP Zulkafli said in addition to enforcement action, police in the state had also taken several preventive measures against illegal gambling.

“(We made) 91 applications to cancel business permits to local authorities.

"From this, 14 business licences have been cancelled while 77 are awaiting feedback.

“A total of 81 applications to cut electricity supply to identified premises under Section 21(A) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953 have been distributed to Tenaga Nasional Berhad, and 67 supply terminations have been carried out so far," he said in a statement on Tuesday (Dec 10).

DCP Zulkafli said they had also sent 46 applications to block websites to the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission, which are also under process.

He added that 1,377 gambling-related investigation papers (IPs) had been opened from January to November.

Of this number, 975 IPs have been prosecuted, 131 classified as no further action by the Public Prosecutor, and 271 still under probe.

“This success is the result of continuous cooperation between the community and enforcement agencies.

“Perak police fully support the efforts of the state government in curbing gambling activities.

“The public is encouraged to report any illegal gambling activities by contacting the Perak police contingent headquarters at 05-2451188,” DCP Zulkafli added.
