Over 100 motorcycles seized by Johor police in three-day traffic ops


JOHOR BARU: Over 300 summonses were issued and more than 100 motorcycles were seized in a three-day traffic operation here.

Johor police chief Comm Datuk M. Kumar said the operation, which focused on motorcyclists, was held from Dec 6 to 8.

“The purpose of having such operation is to curb street thug behaviour and educate road users, in particular motorcyclists, to always adhere to road rules for their own safety.

“Throughout the operation, a total of 303 summonses have been issued for various offences including not wearing a helmet, no insurance coverage, modifications, no plate numbers, and other offences under road rules and laws,” he said in a statement here on Sunday (Dec 8).

Comm Kumar added that during the period, police also seized a total of 114 motorcycles under Section 64(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

He said most of the motorcycles that were seized involving offences such as riding without a license, no insurance, and offences that involved plate numbers and modifications.

“The state police will hold such operations continuously as we would not compromise and remain committed to handling issues involving the safety of all road users.

“Strict action will be taken against any individuals including motorcyclists that have broken the rules and laws under the Road Transport Act 1987,” he said adding that those with any information on crime activities should contact the Johor police hotline at 07-2212999.
