JOHOR BARU: A 27-year-old hawker centre waitress claimed she has lost her job after being harassed by a loan shark over a RM300 debt.
After going to the police, the woman sought help from Johor MCA Youth public services and complaints bureau chief Henry Mok last month.
Mok said the woman claimed she was fired in October after being harassed by the loan shark.
“I contacted the loan shark who, to my surprise, voiced his frustrations that the waitress had not stuck to their agreed-upon loan terms.”
After paying an initial payment, the waitress ignored the loan shark’s attempts to contact her for the remaining amount.
This led the loan shark to visit the hawker centre to find her. However, when she avoided him, he complained to her employer, Kok said.
Mok clarified that the loan shark’s intention was not to cause the woman to lose her job but to recover the outstanding debt.
Mok said he refused to accept the case after hearing from both parties, as they each had their own argument. “The transactions were done in cash so it’s a matter of her word against his.”
