Barisan's new generation must lead coalition changes, says youth chief

KUALA LUMPUR: Changes within Barisan Nasional must be initiated by its new generation, says Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh.

The Barisan Nasional Youth Chief said that younger members should not rely solely on its chairman, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, to propel the coalition forward.

"We are capable of restoring the people's faith in Barisan, but this should not depend entirely on the coalition's top leadership.

Political and organisational change within Barisan must start with the youth in the coalition," he said during the "Era Baru Anak Muda BN" programme held at the World Trade Centre here on Saturday (Dec 7).

The Umno Youth Chief also highlighted the recent state by-elections in Mahkota, Johor, and Nenggiri, Kelantan, which showed a shift in youth support towards Barisan.

"We managed to secure votes in the youth voting channels during the two by-elections. This demonstrates our commitment and quality in restoring the people's faith in Barisan.

But we have no time to lose – the changes must come from us. This is our time, in our own way," he added.
