Xi plans visit to Malaysia next year, says ministry

CHINA’S President Xi Jinping has expressed interest in visiting Malaysia next year, says the Foreign Ministry.

Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan said the president last visited Malaysia in 2013.

“President Xi has expressed his desire to visit Malaysia in 2025, depending on the suitable timing of both parties,” he said in a parliamentary answer to Wong Shu Qi (PH-Kluang).

Wong had asked the ministry to state the outcomes of His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia’s visit to China recently.

Mohamad said that various cooperation opportunities between the two countries were discussed during the visit, which included trade, investment, education and tourism, among others.“China agreed to enhance existing cooperation while also exploring new cooperation opportunities under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).

“Other collaborations include the sharing of expertise and technology in the fields of agriculture, eradication of hardcore poverty, renewable energy, semiconductors, artificial intelligence and the digital economy,” he added.

Mohamad said the grand reception of Sultan Ibrahim in China also proved the close ties between the two countries.

“The close relationship that is based on mutual respect and trust was evident during His Majesty’s meeting with President Xi and Prime Minister Li Qiang recently.

“China is very open and sincere in every issue discussed. China also intended to share urban planning expertise to encourage private sector investment in the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone and high-speed rail development projects,” he said.
