Lorry collision in Beluran leaves drivers injured, road covered in oil palm bunches

KOTA KINABALU: A head-on collision between two lorries at the Beluran checkpoint early this morning (Dec 5) left both drivers injured and the road strewn with oil palm bunches.

Beluran Fire Station chief Edoen Macheal said a team of seven was dispatched immediately after receiving an emergency call at 6.57am.

“The team arrived at the scene, 26km from the station, at 7.52am to find oil palm bunches scattered across the road, with one lorry overturned on its side,” he said.

Investigations indicated that the two lorries were travelling in opposite directions when the collision occurred.

Both victims were taken to safety by passersby before the team arrived.

Sudirman Amdan, 46, the driver of the larger lorry, sustained a head injury, while Sultan Sadi, 18, suffered fractures to his leg and arm.

Medical officials provided first aid on-site before transporting the victims to Beluran Hospital via ambulance.

The operation concluded at 9.13am after ensuring the scene was safe and free of further hazards.
