Three wanted men shot dead by cops in Penampang

KOTA KINABALU: Three men wanted for a string of crimes including murder were killed in a shootout with the police in Penampang near here late Tuesday (Dec 3).

The suspects, in their 40s and 50s, were believed to have fled from Sarawak where they allegedly committed the crimes.

The incident occurred when a police team from the Sabah Criminal Investigation Department (CID) special investigation (D9) unit, following a tip-off, raided a first-floor unit at the Beverly Hills Apartment just after 9pm.

“That was when a shootout ensued between the three men and the police,” Sabah CID chief Senior Asst Comm Datuk Azmi Abdul Rahim said when met at the scene.

“Our men managed to shoot dead the suspects, believed to have been involved in a host of crimes including murder in Sarawak,” he added.

He said further investigations were being carried out to find more information on the suspects.

A police forensics unit was also at the scene to help facilitate the probe.
