NGO files police report against blogger for allegedly defaming Anwar, Madani govt

KUALA LUMPUR: Sekretariat Gerak Gempur Media Sosial Rakyat (SGGMSR), an organisation comprising 50 non-governmental organisations (NGOs), has filed a police report against a controversial blogger accused of defaming Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim over investments in several states and smearing the reputation of the Madani government.

SGGMSR chairman Mustapa Mansor said that the blogger, through a video shared on social media, had accused Anwar of undermining Kedah Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor over investments in the state.

According to Mustapa, the blogger also claimed that the Prime Minister had discouraged investors from investing in Kelantan, Terengganu and Perlis.

"He (the blogger) has made baseless assumptions, false perceptions, and defamatory claims about PMX, particularly regarding investments, implying bribery, embezzlement, and personal interests, which are slanderous and inciteful without any evidence.

"We urge the authorities to take action against this blogger,” he said after filing the report at the Dang Wangi district police headquarters on Wednesday (Dec 4).

Dang Wangi OCPD Asst Comm Sulizmie Affendy Sulaiman confirmed receipt of the report.

The 11-minute, 23-second video allegedly uploaded by the blogger claimed that Anwar tried to sabotage the Kedah Perikatan Nasional chairman by discouraging investors from investing in Kedah.

This followed Muhammad Sanusi's allegations of a conspiracy to derail private investments in Kedah, although he has yet to reveal the alleged culprits. – Bernama
