Malacca Eng Choon Association offers RM1,200 incentive for parents with newborns

MELAKA: A local association here is looking to reward parents who give birth to children with RM100 per month for a year starting from Jan 1.

The Malacca Eng Choon Association has announced the launch of its "Eng Choon Baby Plan" starting Jan 1, which is aimed at encouraging childbirth by providing a monthly incentive of RM100 for each newborn registered under the programme.

The incentive will be distributed for 12 months, amounting to a total of RM1,200 per child.

The money will be awarded to the newborns based on their 'Eng Choon' heritage through their father’s lineage.

The association's Deputy President, Datuk Wira Lee Shiann said this one-year incentive programme will provide RM100 per month to eligible members.

"In the case of twins, RM200 will be awarded per month, and so on," he was quoted as saying by Sin Chew Daily.

Lee said individuals of Eng Choon heritage who are not yet members can apply to join the association and subsequently become eligible for this benefit.

To date, many members have inquired about the programmes, which aims to not only increase the number of Eng Choon members but also indirectly boost the Chinese population in Malaysia," he said after attending the Malacca Eng Choon Association’s 224th Anniversary Gala Dinner on Monday night.

Eng Choon, also Yongchun in pinyin, is a province in southern Fujian province, China.
