Floods: Number of evacuees in Perak increases to 130


IPOH: The number of flood evacuees in Perak has increased to 130 people, with more expected to be relocated to 10 temporary relief centres in five districts.

A state Disaster Management Committee spokesman said as of 8pm, the number of victims seeking shelter at SK Matang Gelugor in Larut, Matang and Selama has increased from 43 to 47 people.

"The number of victims at the Kampung Sri Kinta community hall in Ipoh and Dewan Bandaran Kinta in Batu Gajah remains the same at 45 and 38 people respectively," he said in a statement on Sunday (Dec 1).

"We have opened seven more relief centres in Ipoh, Batu Gajah, Kampar and Hilir Perak.

"The relocation and registration process is currently being conducted," he added.

Among the areas affected by the floods include Kampung Tasek and Arena Kepayang Putra in Ipoh; Kampung Sungai Terap, Kampung Pisang, Kampung Seri Meriah and Kampung Seri Kulim (Batu Gajah); Kampung Batu 7 Selabak and Lorong Imam Khairi (Hilir Perak) and Kampung Kota, Kampung Lalang and Kota Bharu (Kampar).

The spokesman also said that the water level of two rivers - Sungai Rui in Hulu Perak and Sungai Kinta in Kampar - was at the warning level.
