IPOH: Police arrested a 64-year-old man for allegedly setting fire to three fishing rigs at Pantai Remis.

Manjung OCPD Asst Comm Hasbullah Abd Rahman said the unemployed man was arrested near Jalan Pelantar on Sunday (Dec 1) at about 11.15am.

This, he said, was after a report was lodged by the premises owner on the same day at about 1.30am.

"The man is a villager who is known to the premises owner," he said when contacted.

"CCTV at the premises caught him setting fire to the rigs at about 11am using petrol before fleeing," he said, adding that the owner had claimed to have suffered losses of about RM470,000.

ACP Hasbullah said the case would be investigated under Section 436 of the Penal Code for causing mischief by fire.

"We are still trying to determine the motive.

"Those found guilty can be jailed up to 20 years and fined," he added.
