ALOR SETAR: A guard with a private security company was sentenced to one year in prison and fined RM4,500 by a Magistrate's Court here after he pleaded guilty to stealing RM200,000 in cash from his employer last week.

Bernama reported on Tuesday (Nov 26) that Magistrate Siti Norhidayah Mohd Noor also imposed an additional one year's jail on Muhd Fairul Fizree Abdul Hamid, 38, if he fails to pay the fine.

In the same court on Monday (Nov 25), Fairul Fizree was charged along with two colleagues with stealing the money from his employer Kawal Wiramas Sdn Bhd near the Taman Kristal traffic lights here at 10.34am on Nov 19.

Fairul Fizree pleaded guilty but sentencing was deferred to today after the evidence was not presented in court on Monday.

The other two accused, Mohamad Zul Hilmi Ahmad, 37, and Muhammad Fadzli Yaakub, 28, pleaded not guilty and claimed trial.

All three were charged under Section 381 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 34, which carries a penalty of up to seven years in prison and a fine upon conviction.

Lawyer Mohd Khairul Afizuddin Ramli, representing Fairul Fizree, requested a lenient sentence, as his client, who is single, is responsible for caring for his sister, a kidney patient.

DPP R. Jayasri called for a deterrent sentence, as this would serve as a lesson to the accused and the public.

It was reported last week that three security guards lodged a report claiming that their security company's van had been robbed in an attempt to steal RM200,000.

They were subsequently arrested by police for criminal breach of trust on Nov 19, reported Sinar Harian.

Acting Kota Setar OCPD Supt Syed Basri Syed Ali said the three individuals had initially claimed in their report that the company's van had been robbed and that a sack containing RM200,000 had been taken.
