Azmin should have accepted the post of sec-gen when offered, says Hamzah

PETALING JAYA: Selangor Bersatu chairman Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali should have accepted the offer as secretary-general of the party when it was offered to him by party president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, says Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin.

The secretary-general said all aspects were considered when the offer was made, including if he was eligible to hold the post.

"When the president offered, we have thought it through and felt that he was eligible and should have accepted.

"However he never said no and said he would think about it, which is good, as it is a trait of a leader when people offer a post he doesn't say yes immediately.

"When he says he will think about it, it is good, but people feel when he says that it means he is rejecting the post as they want only to hear a yes or no," said Hamzah in an exclusive interview with Sinar Harian.

He was responding to the question of whether Bersatu wanted the services of Azmin as the new secretary-general.

In the Bersatu Convention on July 13, Muhyiddin called for a compromise where the deputy presidency would go to Hamzah and offered Mohamed Azmin the post of secretary-general.

Meanwhile, about the Bersatu Annual Assembly at the end of November, Hamzah said it was important to mobilise the members and show that the party is still relevant and strong.

"We are an inclusive party which can be accepted by all quarters.

"There are plans at the assembly to recognise heads of non-Malay wings equivalent with the rank of a vice-president," added Hamzah.
