Police patrol car involved in accident while investigating crash

PETALING JAYA: Three men, including two police officers, sustained injuries in an accident involving two vehicles at kilometre (KM) 74.5 of Jalan Kuantan-Kuala Lumpur early Saturday morning.

The incident, which occurred around 3.25am, involved a police patrol car and a four-wheel drive.

Maran District Police Chief, Superintendent Wong Kim Wai, said the driver of the patrol car, Corporal Mohd Razif Hamzah, 38, suffered severe injuries to his left hand, while the passenger, Sergeant Mohd Azzuhair Hafifi Azman, 29, sustained chest injuries. The four-wheel driver, a 48-year-old man, also suffered chest injuries.

According to him, preliminary investigations revealed that the accident happened as the patrol car was travelling from the Maran Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Department to Jengka 19 to investigate a separate accident.

"Upon reaching the scene, the four-wheeler, which was coming from the opposite direction, suddenly lost control and veered into the patrol car's lane, resulting in a head-on collision.

"As a result of the crash, all victims sustained injuries and were rushed to Temerloh Hospital for further treatment," he said in a Sinar Harian report.

He added that further investigations are ongoing, and the case is being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
