NSE expansion in Johor won't affect holiday traffic in first half of 2025, says Ahmad Maslan

KULAI: The ongoing expansion works along the Johor stretch of the North-South Expressway (NSE) will not affect the major festive celebrations in the first half of next year, says Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan.

The Deputy Works Minister said works to expand the current two lanes to three each way along the Sedenak-Kulai stretch started in July.

“Phase One-Package A, for the southbound section of the stretch, is expected to continue until the second quarter of next year, after which work will shift to the northbound stretch.

“We will ensure there are no traffic disruptions along the site during this period,” he told a press conference after a site visit here on Friday (Nov 22).

He added that there may be disruptions from June when the existing lanes would be narrowed from the current 3.65m to 3.5m to accommodate the construction.

He said the speed limit would also be reduced from 110kph to 90kph from June and this was expected to contribute to traffic congestion.

He added that alternative solutions would be found to address the congestion, depending on the situation.

The Phase One-Package A project from Sedenak-Kulai costs RM525mil while Phase Two would cost RM506mil, followed by Phase Three with a cost of RM487mil.

The three phases cover a 54km stretch from Kulai to Machap.
