KUCHING: Sarawak has allocated RM110mil for the Unit for Other Religions (Unifor) to assist houses of worship and mission schools this year, says Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.

The Deputy Premier said RM90mil was allocated for the construction, repair and upgrading of houses of worship while RM20mil was for mission schools.

As of October, he said, grants totalling RM80.42mil had been distributed to 197 houses of worship to assist their development projects.

"The remaining grants amounting to RM9.58mil are scheduled for disbursement soon," he told the Sarawak Legislative Assembly in his winding-up speech on Wednesday (Nov 20).

As for mission schools, he said the RM20mil allocation was distributed to 120 recipients in August for their respective development projects.

Uggah also said construction of the Unifor Complex here was completed on Oct 19 and the occupation permit handed over to the Unifor Charitable Trust Board of Trustees on Oct 30.

He called on Sarawakians of diverse racial and religious backgrounds to uphold and strengthen tolerance, acceptance and mutual respect.

"By fostering peace and harmony, we lay a solid foundation to achieve our shared development goals," he said.
