A MAN in Kuala Terengganu collapsed during his daughter’s convocation ceremony before passing away.

Muhammad Non Nawang, better known as Pok Nong, owned Warung Pok Nong Celup Tepung, according to Sinar Harian.

The 68-year-old passed away at the Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital (HSNZ) on Wednesday.

“He breathed his last at 11.45pm after being put under anaesthesia for brain haemorrhage surgery,” said daughter Nur Izzati, 25.

Izzati said her father had collapsed while attending her younger sister Nor Arisyah’s convocation ceremony at Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (Unisza) Gong Badak in Kuala Nerus at 2pm on Tuesday.

“During the academic procession, my father suddenly fell and was assisted by a staff member of the university.

“He was rushed to the Sultan Zainal Abidin Hospital before being transferred to HSNZ for further treatment,” she said.

Before attending the convocation, her father had been running a fever for two days.

But he was adamant about attending the ceremony to support his daughter, who graduated with a Bachelor of Food Technology with Honours.

His restaurant was popular among locals and tourists visiting Terengganu.

> Two friends have been awarded for saving a man from drowning in Temerloh, reported Berita Harian.

Mohammad Akiff Sulainam, 32, and Muhammad Hakim Mazlan, 36, were in Kampung Sungai Tekal when a man fell from his boat into the Pahang River.

“Hakim was fishing and I was on the riverbank near my fish cage,” said Akiff.

“We saw the man trying to swim to shore but he was struggling due to the strong currents.”

Despite the risks, the duo managed to rescue the man.
