Director nabbed in RM1.1mil fraud probe

PETALING JAYA: Another company director has been detained by graft busters for allegedly submitting false information in applications for foreign workers

The approval, if obtained, from the Human Resources Ministry was worth RM1.1mil.

Sources said the female suspect, in her 40s, was detained at about 5pm on Nov 13 after recording her statement at the Selangor Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) office.

Her remand until Nov 18 was granted by Magistrate Wan Noora Nisa Ngadirin at Shah Alam Magistrate’s Court yesterday.

“We believe the suspect was involved in the offence in 2023 by submitting two foreign worker quota applications for 600 workers, when there was no supply of workers for the project.

“The two applications involved levies worth about RM1.1mil,” sources said.

Selangor MACC director Datuk Alias Salim confirmed the arrest and said the case was classified under Section 18 of the MACC Act 2009.

It was reported that the MACC arrested a Bangladeshi company director with a Datuk title on suspicion of submitting documents with false details involving the application of a foreign worker quota for Human Resources Ministry approval worth RM1.1mil.

According to a source within the Selangor MACC, the man, in his 40s, was arrested around 9pm on Nov 12 after he showed up to provide his statement at the Selangor MACC office.

“The suspect is believed to have committed the act in 2023 by submitting two quota applications involving 600 foreign workers by the company while the workforce supply for the project submitted did not exist.

“Both applications involved the levy payments of about RM650,000 and RM460,000,” said the source, adding that the suspect has been remanded for six days until Nov 17.
