12 illegals working for Bangladeshi ‘boss’ nabbed in Melaka raid

MELAKA: Twelve illegal immigrants working for a Bangladeshi "boss" were nabbed by the Melaka Immigration Department during an early morning raid on Jalan Tambak Bugis, Telok Mas here.

Melaka Immigration Dept director Anirwan Fauzee Mohd Aini said the four were found hiding in makeshift tents inside a secondary jungle and a hut at a construction site during the 1am raid on Tuesday (Nov 12).

"There was also a woman among the 11 who were detained.

"Those detained were aged between 30 and 40 years," he said.

Anirwan Fauzee said the hut had a cooking area with a stove and refrigerator.

"All of the illegal immigrants were fast asleep when Immigration officers ambushed the site," he said.

He said the illegal immigrants were employed by a Bangladeshi contractor for a bungalow project at the site.

All of them were working at the site for the past four months.

It's not immediately known whether the Bangladeshi employer is also an illegal immigrant as he wasn't at the site when the raid was conducted.

Anirwan Fauzee said all those detained will be investigated under the Immigration Act 1959/63 (Act 155).

He said his officers also checked 42 foreigners across eight locations, including restaurants and massage parlours in areas such as Malim, Telok Mas, Batu Berendam, and Klebang during the operation.
