Upcoming state election crucial for Gagasan, says Hajiji

KOTA KINABALU: The upcoming state election will be a crucial time for Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (Gagasan) to solidify its political position and strengthen public support in the state, says Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.

The Gagasan president, speaking in his capacity as Chief Minister, added that it will also be a critical period for the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) and Pakatan Harapan coalition in the state.

He said their fate will ultimately be decided by the people, who will choose the government's mandate.

“We need the mandate from the rakyat to serve the government for another five years,” said Hajiji during the Gagasan annual general conference on Sunday (Nov 10).

“The next five years are for us to continue our Sabah Maju Jaya initiative for the state, and it is important that our ongoing plans proceed to the end for the well-being of the people and the state,” he added.

He urged party members and leaders to fine-tune their strategies in serving the people, fulfilling their duties for the state, and ensuring that the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah coalition and Pakatan Harapan Plus continue to lead the state government.

Reflecting on the past four years, Hajiji said the state government has initiated changes and developments in Sabah, addressing issues like security, Sabah rights under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63), and oil and gas explorations.

He mentioned that many assistance programmes have been designed to help students, underprivileged families, and rural communities in terms of infrastructure and socio-economic development.

He said the state has also explored new economic avenues, such as the Blue Economy and renewable energy.

Hajiji stressed that these initiatives must continue for the people's benefit and that the current state government should carry on with this work.

He also highlighted the importance of strong cooperation with the federal government to ensure the success of state policies and plans.
