GEORGE TOWN: Malaysia will adopt a wait-and-see approach when it comes to the policies of the new Donald Trump-led US government next year, says Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan.

The Finance Minister II said the government will be watching the policies that come out of the United States when Trump takes over next year as the President.

"We congratulate them on their new president and we will see the new policies they introduce.

"There is still time as the transition will take place in January next year.

"Right now he is building a Cabinet," he said when speaking to reporters after giving his key address at the Affin Market Outlook Propelling Malaysia Forward Conference, Penang Series held here on Monday (Nov 11).

He was responding to a question posed by the press about how the new Trump administration will impact Malaysia.

Amir said in terms of Malaysia, it was about observing what is introduced next year.

"We will see the new policies they come up with and if it will propel the world economy forward," he said.

It was reported that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in an immediate congratulatory message to Trump this week said, as Asean chair in 2025, Malaysia hopes that America will reinvigorate its engagement with South-East Asia.
