MyTourist Pass rolled out to boost use of public transport
KUALA LUMPUR: To further encourage the use of public transport, Prasarana Malaysia Bhd through RapidKL has launched the MyTourist Pass for visitors.
Transport Minister Anthony Loke said the pass would be offered to both locals and foreign tourists when they are visiting the Klang Valley.
“We found that many local and foreign visitors would use public transport when they come to Kuala Lumpur, so this initiative would further boost the use of public transport when they are in the city,” he told reporters after the launching event yesterday.
Loke said the pass would cost RM20 (one-day pass), RM30 (two-day pass) and RM40 (three-day pass) for local tourists.
Foreign tourists could buy the pass starting from RM40, RM60 and RM80 for the same period.
The pass can be used for RapidKL LRT, MRT, monorail, BRT, RapidKL bus and MRT feeder bus rides.
On a separate matter, Loke said the use of the open payment system, which would allow commuters to use their preferred payment channels, is being expedited.
“I have asked Prasarana to expedite the open payment system, which is already in the works and will be implemented soon.
“This would also make it easier for local and foreign visitors to use their preferred payment methods when using public transport,” he added.
Loke also said the integration of the new payment system would take at least a year before it can be implemented as it involves hardware upgrades at all train stations.
The event held at Tun Razak Exchange Raintree Plaza was officiated by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof.
Fadillah said the introduction of MyTourist Pass is timely as Malaysia is assuming the Asean chairmanship next year and hosting Visit Malaysia Year 2026.
He said the tourism industry is one of the main contributors to the nation’s revenue.
“This initiative can assist the government in attracting more tourists to Malaysia and boosting the country’s tourism sector.
“This is a smart move that will help in supporting the growth of the local tourism industry,” he said in his speech.
The event was also held in conjunction with RapidKL’s 20th anniversary. Fadillah said the operator had been an important player in modernising transportation services in the city.
“Throughout these two decades, RapidKL had played a huge role in transforming the public transportation system in Kuala Lumpur from just a normal network to being the backbone of Malaysia,” he said.
