Eight religious school students charged with causing injury at Rembau court


KUALA PILAH: Eight male students of a private religious school in Rembau were separately charged at a Magistrate's Court here with causing injury to other students.

Four 15-year-old students claimed trial to a charge of causing injury to a 14-year-old victim after it was read out to them before Magistrate Saiful Sayoti.

However, a 16-year-old student pleaded guilty to causing injury to the same student.

The accused were charged under Section 325 of the Penal Code read together with Section 34 of the same legislation for causing grievous hurt.

Offenders can be jailed up to seven years and fined or both upon conviction.

Meanwhile, three other students, all 17-years-old, pleaded guilty to a charge of voluntarily causing hurt to a 15-year-old student.

One of the accused also pleaded guilty to a second charge of causing injury to another 15-year-old victim.

The three were charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of up to one year or a fine of up to RM2,000 or both upon conviction.

All the accused were charged with committing the alleged offences between 1am and 5.30pm on Oct 16 at the school hostel.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Khairunnisa Zainudin prosecuted while the accused were represented by counsel from the Legal Aid department.

Magistrate Saiful then allowed the students to be released on RM2,000 bail with one surety each.

He also fixed Dec 17 for mention and for the student's probationary report.
