Three men caught stealing cables in Gerik

IPOH: Police caught three men red-handed as they attempted to steal Telekom Malaysia's cables at Kampung Air Ganda in Gerik.

Gerik OCPD Superintendent Zulkifli Mahmood said that policemen on crime prevention rounds on Friday (Nov 8) spotted a suspicious vehicle at about 4pm.

"After observing, the policemen saw three men exit the vehicle, open a manhole cover, and attempt to cut cables belonging to Telekom Malaysia. They ambushed and arrested the three, aged between 28 and 36," he said in a statement issued on Saturday (Nov 9).

Superintendent Zulkifli said that the vehicle, a hook, a hook with a rope, a cable cutter, and a hammer were also confiscated.

Initial investigations revealed that the three suspects intended to cut the cables first and pull them up later in the night.

"All three tested positive for syabu. They all have prior criminal records for house break-ins and drug-related offences. All the suspects have been remanded until Monday.

"The case is being investigated under Section 379 and Section 511 of the Penal Code for theft, as well as Section 15(1)(A) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952," he added.
