PETALING JAYA: Over 30 engagement sessions have been held with more than 5,000 stakeholders to obtain views on the next higher education blueprint.
A total of 1,816 survey responses from various groups nationwide, within and outside the higher education ecosystem, were also collected to identify key issues and challenges.
Both were conducted by a group of experts chaired by Prof Emerita Datuk Dr Asma Ismail.
The Higher Education Ministry also continued its Malaysian Higher Education Blueprint Advisory Committee 2026-2035, with the second meeting for 2024 being held on Nov 7 in Kuala Lumpur.
The meeting, chaired by Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir, was attended by 120 people, including top management from the ministry and higher education institutes, conglomerate figures, major national industry players and consulting experts.
It was also attended by Higher Education Deputy Minister Datuk Mustapha Sakmud and Higher Education Ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri Dr Zaini Ujang.
Among the members of the advisory committee are former higher education ministers Datuk Seri Mustapha Mohamed and Tan Sri Idris Jusoh, Pemandu Associates president and chairman Datuk Seri Idris Jala, Capital A Berhad chief executive officer Tan Sri Tony Fernandes and Bursa Malaysia Bhd chairman Tan Sri Abdul Wahid Omar.
“Leaders presented the issues and challenges as well as the strategies arranged in the 10 thrusts of the 2026-2035 blueprint led by Prof Asma.
“Overall, the 10 thrusts presented are comprehensive, complete and cover all aspects of the higher education ecosystem,” the ministry said in a statement on Friday.
Among the proposed elements taken into account are future economic factors, market demand factors and the success of higher education research.
“The advisory panel also suggested that this policy be followed with an action plan to ensure the policy is implemented as expected.“The ministry hopes that the combination of expertise and feedback from various parties can produce a practical blueprint to be implemented and have a strategic impact on talent development to make the country’s economic growth agenda a success,” it added.
The current higher education blueprint will end next year.
