Repeat offender arrested with yaba pills worth RM165,000

KOTA BHARU: A man with past drug-related offences has been arrested for having in his possession 18,000 Yaba pills weighing 2.2kg in Kampung Kota Jembal here.

Kelantan police chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat said the 29-year-old suspect was detained behind a school last Monday (Nov 4) at about 7.30pm while he was sitting on his motorcycle.

He said police found a white plastic bundle containing three yellowish packages with 18,000 yaba pills in his motorcycle basket.

"We believe the suspect was waiting for a customer. The drugs were valued at RM165,000. Police also confiscated the motorcycle and RM1,500 from the suspect," he said in a press conference at the Kelantan police contingent headquarters here on Wednesday (Oct 6).

Mohd Yusoff said the suspect has seven drug-related records and was confirmed positive for drugs. He has been remanded seven days from Nov 5 to 11 for further investigation under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

In a related development, he said police seized drugs worth RM4.87mil and arrested 663 individuals aged between 17 and 65 during a week-long anti-drug operation that concluded on Tuesday (Nov 5).

Meanwhile, Mohd Yusoff urged Malaysian youths attending parties at night spots in Sungai Golok to exercise caution, as they may unknowingly consume drinks and food laced with drugs.

He explained that consuming such food and beverages can result in impaired judgment, sensory deprivation, or even substance addiction.

Mohd Yusoff said those who consumed these drinks and food may test positive for drugs and face legal repercussions.

"My advice to Kelantan youths who frequently visit Sungai Golok for weekend parties is to be more vigilant when going to these places. If possible, avoid them altogether, as associating with the wrong crowd could lead to serious problems," he said. – Bernama
