Former Sabah Suhakam officer slapped with 23 charges of misusing official receipts

KOTA KINABALU: A former Suhakam senior officer was charged with 23 counts of cheating in a Sessions Court here on Wednesday (Nov 6).

Heflin AK Dino, 37, pleaded not guilty to charges of issuing false receipts totalling RM53,520 to cheat Suhakam from March 15, 2019, and Oct 4, 2021, at the Suhakam office in Kota Kinabalu.

All charges related to the misuse of documents were filed under Section 471 of the Penal Code, which is punishable under Section 467 of the same code.

Heflin, who was represented by counsel Datuk K. Rakhbir Singh, claimed trial against all the 23 charges after he appeared successively before five Session Court Judges in Kota Kinabalu.

He was brought separately before Session Court judges — Noor Hafizah Salim, Amir Shah Amir Hassan, Marlina Ibrahim, Elsie Primus and Hurman Hussain.

According to Rakbir, Heflin was granted bail totalling RM16,500 for all the charges. Heflin’s passport would be confiscated, and he would have to report to the nearest police station twice a month until the trial was over.
