Man breaks both legs after oil palm tree falls on shelter canopy


IPOH: A 20-year-old man broke both his legs after an oil palm tree fell on the canopy he was using for shelter in Kampung Sungai Kuning, Selama.

Perak Fire and Rescue Department Assistant Director (Operations) Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad reported that the man was pinned by the tree during the incident, which occurred on Saturday (Nov 2) at around 1.44pm.

"There were two others, aged 20 and 17, who sustained minor injuries," he said in a statement.

"They had been attending a wedding ceremony and sought shelter under the canopy due to a thunderstorm."

Firefighters used a chainsaw to cut through the fallen tree to rescue the seriously injured man before handing him over to Health Ministry personnel for further treatment, he added. The operation concluded at 2.48pm.
