Subscribers are thanking their lucky stars

PETALING JAYA: Subscribing to The Star paid off for six readers, who were rewarded with attractive prizes in a recent “Subscribe or Renew” contest held by the daily.

The grand prizes were Malaysia Airlines (MAS) e-vouchers worth RM12,000 and mobile phones, namely the iPhone 15 Pro Max and Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5, both worth RM6,500 each.

The winners said they were in disbelief but ecstatic with their prizes.

Almaz Azmi, who won the grand prize of MAS e-vouchers, said she was initially sceptical when she received a call and an e-mail two weeks ago from The Star informing her of her win.

“I thought it was some kind of scam but later learnt it was genuine. It is my first time winning a contest.

“I am still coming to terms with this but I plan to travel with my family using the e-vouchers,” said the 33-year-old consultant who renews her subscription monthly and has been signed up for The Star ePaper for over two years.

Almaz described The Star as a respectable paper that provides her with news updates, especially local content.

Businessman Azman Mohamad, 55, who won an iPhone 15 Pro Max, said he was also wary of it being a scam when he got the good news by phone and was only convinced after receiving an official email from the daily.

“For me, The Star is the most reliable news source in the country. Its website is very user-friendly.

“I am grateful to The Star for this prize as I feel appreciated for all my years of being a subscriber.

“I can now brag to others that The Star gave me a brand new phone. This doesn’t happen every day,” said the over eight years subscriber to The Star.

Another businessman, 30-year-old Clarence Tan, 30, also a subscriber of The Star for several years, said he was pleasantly surprised when he was told that he had won an iPhone 15 Pro Max.

“At first I thought it was too good to be true. Now, I am just delighted to have won, and I am using the iPhone,” he said, adding that he subscribed to The Star as he finds the e-paper convenient for local news updates, especially when he is overseas.

Banker Cheah Eu Gene said he was overjoyed to have won a Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5, and was certainly glad to have continued his subscription.

“I will continue with The Star as it is affordable, and I am happy with the news content.

“I was worried that it was a scam, but when I was asked to pick up my prize from Menara Star (in Petaling Jaya), I knew I had truly won. It made my day,” said the 31-year-old subscriber for over five years.

The other two winners are Chai Ko Thing, who won an iPhone 15 Pro Max, and Sri Dhasra Mathiyazhagan, who clinched a Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5.

The contest, which ran between June 3 and July 26, also saw 60 other subscribers winning consolation prizes of Watsons and PETRONAS e-vouchers worth RM200 each.

A similar contest that kicked off on Oct 14 is ongoing until Dec 8, with total prizes worth RM68,000 up for grabs.
