KK cops on track to meet KPI for squatter demolitions by year-end

KOTA KINABALU: With two months remaining, Kota Kinabalu police are confident they will meet their target of demolishing 2,000 squatter houses by the end of the year.

Kota Kinabalu police chief Asst Comm Kasim Muda said that, to date, they have removed 709 illegal structures, with further operations planned to address the remainder.

Kasim stated that the focus has been on areas known for illegal immigrant settlements, which are often linked to drug and criminal activities, as well as electricity and water theft.

"Our demolition efforts are concentrated in the Numbak, Sepanggar, and Kayu Madang areas. Given the current progress, we believe we can meet or even surpass the overall KPI," he said to reporters after attending the handover ceremony for the Inanam, Luyang, and Alamesra police station chief posts on Friday (Nov 1).

At the ceremony, retiring Sub-Insp Mohd Hadzir Mohd Yusof handed over his duties to Sub-Insp Mohd Rashidi Nawawi, his successor at Inanam.

The Luyang station will now be led by Sgt Abang Roslan Abang Sharkawi, taking over from Sgt Mohd Rashidi.

Meanwhile, Sgt Md Nazir Saidi will assume the Alamesra station chief post from Sub-Insp Fadiluddin Idris, who is being transferred to Menumbok as the new station chief.
