JOHOR BARU: The cumulative number of dengue cases in Johor has risen by 36.1%, reaching 11,822 cases as of the 43rd epidemiological week (ME43) this year.
Johor Health and Environment Committee Chairman Ling Tian Soon reported this increase from the 8,684 cases recorded in the same period last year.
Among the reported cases, 4,885 (41.3%) originated from outbreak localities, while 6,937 cases (58.7%) were from non-outbreak areas.
During ME43 (Oct 20-Oct 26), 153 new dengue cases were reported, showing a 19% decrease from the 189 cases in the previous week, ME42 (Oct 13-Oct 19).
Of these, 28 cases (18.3%) were from outbreak localities, and the remaining 125 cases (81.7%) were from non-outbreak areas.
Ling noted that Johor Baru registered the highest number of cases in ME43, with 95 cases, accounting for 62.1% of the total.
Next was Kulai with 26 cases (17.0%), Batu Pahat with 12 cases (7.8%), Kluang with 6 cases (3.9%), Segamat with 4 cases (2.6%), Muar and Tangkak each with 3 cases (2.0%), and Pontian and Kota Tinggi with 2 cases each (1.3%). No cases were reported in Mersing.
Regarding HIV cases in Johor, Ling revealed that as of ME43, a total of 370 HIV cases were recorded state-wide. Out of these, 160 are new HIV infections, equating to a rate of 3.8 cases per 100,000 residents.
During ME43, five new HIV cases were added, with three from Johor Baru and one each from Kulai and Mersing.
The cumulative number of new HIV cases by district includes Johor Baru with 83 cases (52%), Batu Pahat with 15 cases (9%), Kulai with 15 cases (9%), Segamat with 12 cases (8%), Kluang with 8 cases (5%), Pontian with 6 cases (4%), Mersing with 6 cases (4%), Muar with 5 cases (3%), Kota Tinggi with 5 cases (3%), and Tangkak with 5 cases (3%).
Of the 160 newly reported HIV cases, 147 individuals (92%) have started antiretroviral therapy, with the remaining 16 cases currently under monitoring.
