PETALING JAYA: A private school in Kota Damansara has clarified that it voluntarily closed for one day on Oct 24 for a thorough cleaning of its facilities as a precautionary measure.
Sri KDU Schools said, however, that the school resumed normal operations the following day on Oct 25.
“To reiterate, there was no forced closure of the school and the temporary closure was unrelated to allegations of food poisoning, which has yet to be confirmed to date.
“As Sri KDU Schools Kota Damansara will be observing a scheduled holiday break in view of the upcoming Deepavali celebration, the school will be closed from Oct 28 onwards, with classes resuming on Nov 4,” it said in a statement yesterday.
It added that the school will continue to work closely with the Petaling District Health Office and prioritise the health and safety of its students.
On Friday, The Star reported that a private school had been forced to shut until next month after several students reportedly suffered from food poisoning linked to the school canteen.
“While the situation has been difficult, especially for those who have taken ill, we are very grateful for the support, advice and guidance that many in our community have contributed,” it said.
The school did not disclose specific numbers but it is believed that over 20 students had fallen ill.Sri KDU Schools said its catering service has since undergone inspection by health authorities, who reviewed kitchen procedures and collected samples for testing.
