Hoarded cooking oil cache uncovered in KL shop

KUALA LUMPUR: Dozens of boxes of cooking oil packets have been found hidden away in a shop located on Jalan Permaisuri, Bandar Sri Permaisuri here.

Officers from the Federal Territory Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry received information about the hoarding of the oil though its e-complaint system and sent plain clothes officers to the shop posing as buyers.

In a statement, the ministry said the salesperson there claimed that cooking oil in packets was sold out.

"Uniformed officers then entered the premises and met with the shop supervisor.

"A thorough search of the business premises found dozens of boxes of packaged cooking oil in the store room," it said in a statement, reported Sinar Harian on Sunday (Oct 27).

It added that they confiscated 935kg of subsidised packet cooking oil worth over RM3,000.

Action was taken under Section 16(1)(b) of the Control of Supplies Act 1961, which provides a fine of up to RM5mil or maximum five years' jail, If convicted.
