Sibu shooting victim in stable condition


SIBU: The 46-year-old man who was shot on Thursday (Oct 24) while waiting to pick up his son from school is reported to be in stable condition.

Sibu OCPD Asst Comm Zulkipli Suhaili said the victim is currently being treated at a private hospital.

"His condition has stabilised. He remains in the ward for continued care," he said on Friday (Oct 25).

Asked about progress on the incident, ACP Zulkipli said the case is still under investigation, and police are trying to determine the motive for the shooting.

He added that no arrests had been made yet but police had mounted roadblocks in various locations here.

In the 2pm incident, the victim was shot by an unknown assailant while waiting in his car along Lorong 21, Jalan Wong King Huo.

The victim was in the driver’s seat when the armed individual approached, fired, and fled the scene.

The wounded victim then got out of his car to seek help before collapsing by the roadside.

The case is being investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder, which provides for up to 20 years' jail upon conviction, as injuries were inflicted.
