Manpower Dept trainees get extra day off for Deepavali

PUTRAJAYA: The government will grant an additional day off for students in Manpower Department training institutions (ILJTM) in conjunction with Deepavali, Steven Sim Chee Keong announces.

In a statement on Friday (Oct 25), the Human Resources Minister said for institutions in Johor, Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu, the additional holiday will be on Oct 30, while those in other states will be on Nov 1.

"Since there are 1,500 Indian students at ILJTM, the Human Resources Ministry has agreed to give an additional day off to all ILJTM students.

"The four-day long leave can be used (as they please) by all ILJTM students, especially Hindu students to welcome the Deepavali Day celebration with their families," he said.

However, to achieve the required hours of teaching and learning activities and training, Steven Sim said substitute classes should be held on suitable dates before the end of their semester training.

Deepavali falls on Oct 31, and has been declared a national public holiday. - Bernama
