Rare disease ruined his life

A TEEN has spent the last 10 years in a wheelchair after he was diagnosed with a rare genetic muscular disease known as Duchenne muscular dystrophy, Kosmo! reported.

Khairul Fitri, 19, must now rely on the wheelchair as the muscles in his arms and legs have atrophied due to the disease.

Nurul Naha Hussien, 59, has been left distraught over her son’s ever-worsening condition which first started when Khairul was 10 years old.

She said there were no early signs of any sort of issue until one morning Khairul suddenly had difficulty managing himself when he was about to go to SK Bandar Mentakab.

“Since then, Khairul’s health has continued to deteriorate as his arms and legs become increasingly bent and can only move around in a wheelchair.

“His once active daily life has been completely changed as he is no longer able to even do daily tasks such as eating, drinking and bathing by himself,” said Nurul Naha.

However, with great determination, Khairul managed to complete his primary education but had to drop out of secondary school when his father, Martu Marijo, became increasingly busy with work.

“Only some of his fingers can still function, so he now uses a motorised wheelchair to move around on his own.

“But we can’t afford it as I only work in the village without a fixed income,” Martu, 65, said at their family home in Kampung Mambang Berulang, Mentakab.

> Rapper Bunga Isme has confirmed that she married composer and lyricist Amzar Sabri last year, Harian Metro reported.

The 24-year-old was reluctant to share news of their marriage because both families preferred to keep the matter private.

She said their wedding ceremony took place last year after she completed her studies.

“The ceremony was only attended by family members,” she told reporters when met at the Warner Music Fest 2024 press conference on Tuesday.

Bunga, whose real name is Noor Ayu Fatini Mohd Bakhari, also refused to give details on the exact date of their marriage.

In April, Bunga raised eyebrows after she was seen wearing matching clothes when celebrating Hari Raya with Amzar.
