JB man drowns after falling into Sg Melana


JOHOR BARU: A local man drowned after falling into Sungai Melana near a steamboat restaurant on Monday (Oct 21) night.

The Johor Fire and Rescue Department said a distress call came in at 9.29pm that a man had fallen into the river along Jalan Pulai Perdana 11/7 here.

Operations commander Khairul Anuar Zainal said an 11-man team was sent to the location and immediately carried out a search operation for the missing 24-year-old man.

“We found the victim’s body at a depth of about two metres.

"Medical personnel confirmed his death at the scene,” he said here on Tuesday (Oct 22).

Khairul Anuar urged the public to be careful especially when walking along riverbanks to avoid such tragedies.

Iskandar Puteri OCPD Asst Comm M. Kumarasan, who confirmed the incident, said the victim’s body was taken to Hospital Sultanah Aminah for a post-mortem.
