KOTA KINABALU: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has arrested a retired government officer suspected of soliciting and receiving bribes totalling RM16,000 to expedite a land transfer in the Tawau district.

According to an MACC source, the suspect, in his 60s, was arrested at around 10.30am on Tuesday (Oct 15) after providing a statement at its Tawau branch.

"Initial investigations revealed the suspect is believed to have solicited and received bribes to speed up the transfer of a 12-acre (9.53ha) plot of land in Tawau," the source said.

Sabah MACC director Datuk S Karunanithy confirmed the arrest and said the case is being investigated under Section 165 of the Penal Code.
