SIBU: A 27-year-old man who raped his niece and got her pregnant has been sentenced to nine years' jail.
Sessions Court judge Musyiri Peet also ordered that the accused, from Dalat, be given four strokes of the cane.
The accused was charged under Section 376(1) of the Penal code for rape, which provides for a jail sentence of up to 20 years and whipping.
The offence was committed between Dec 24, 2023 and Jan 1, 2024.
According to the facts of the case, the accused saw the 14-year-old victim at the veranda of the longhouse in Sungai Baoh, Dalat during a Christmas-New Year celebration.
When the victim refused the accused's request for sex, he dragged her to a room and raped her.
The victim, who is a boarding school student, admitted that after the incident, they had sex twice a month from January to July, 2024.
A doctor at the Mukah Health Clinic who examined the victim on July 30 found that she was 33 weeks pregnant and her expected delivery date is Sept 17.
