DPM: Flood mitigation work in Kelantan a priority


BACHOK: Flood mitigation works and water treatment projects in the northern state of Kelantan will continue to be the Federal Government’s priority, says Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof (pic).

Fadillah who is also the Energy Transition and Water Transformation Minister, said all such projects were ongoing and will be completed according to schedule.

“I have been informed that there are issues with the flood mitigation project (contractor).

“We will find a solution to resolve this problem so that it can be completed as planned,” Fadillah said during the hand- over ceremony of the completed Bachok Hospital project here yesterday.

Fadillah said any delays in completing the project would inevitably bring about a risk of floods, so the issue must be dealt with quickly.

“I will return to Kelantan to address the flood issues, as this state experiences flooding every year.”

“I will engage in discussions with the state government to address this, as I have received information about land problems.

“We will also address the contractor issues,” he added.

The construction of the Bachok Hospital, costing RM71.3mil, experienced delays since 2017.

The hospital is expected to begin operations sometime next month.

The three-story hospital building has 76 beds, two operating theatres, specialist clinics, maternity and forensic wards, as well as laboratories and a dialysis centre, which would serve 160,000 residents in the district.

The hospital, built on a 20.3ha plot of land, was handed over by the Public Works Department to the Health Ministry in August after construction was completed in July this year.
