KUALA LUMPUR: MCA is set to hold its annual general meeting (AGM) next weekend, marking a return to traditional practices with the presence of Barisan Nasional chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi as guest of honour.
MCA secretary-general Datuk Chong Sin Woon (pic) also told a press conference at party headquarters here on Thursday (Oct 10) that the AGM will commence on Oct 19 with the Wanita MCA assembly in the morning.
He added that it will then be followed by the MCA Youth assembly at 1.30pm, while the main AGM will be on Oct 20.
"Over the past few years, the AGM did not feature any guests owing to the (Covid-19 pandemic) restrictions and also internal discussions after GE15.
“However, this year marks a (return to) tradition where component parties and friends of Barisan have been invited and have (confirmed) their attendance,” he said.
Chong said there will be 1,733 delegates for the Wanita assembly, 1,033 for the Youth assembly, and 2,269 for the central delegates gathering.
He added that this year’s AGM will focus on strategic planning to navigate Malaysia’s dynamic political landscape in preparation for the next general election.
“Delegates will (chart) the party's direction and address issues through resolutions from state-level assemblies and prior general meetings.
“The MCA central committee is scheduled to finalise these resolutions on Monday (Oct 14), when the president (Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong) will convene a meeting to deliberate on them ahead of the AGM,” added Chong.
He also said MCA has introduced a mobile application to facilitate the distribution of reports and enable easy registration for all delegates and members.
He urged participants to download and update it so that they can access the relevant documents, including the resolutions.
“The AGM will address five categories: party matters, politics, economy, government, and cultural and religious issues.
“Traditionally, each resolution has three to four subcategories.
"These resolutions are formulated from input collected at state and division level and are subject to discussion by the central committee in Monday's meeting,” he added.
